Privacy Policy
SayEdit is a video editor you talk to. This page explains, in plain English, what SayEdit keeps about you, why, who helps us run it, and how you can delete it.
- We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
- No third-party analytics or ad trackers are built into the app today.
- Raw footage is deleted automatically 90 days after upload by default.
- You can delete everything from Settings > Account, at any time.
Who we are
SayEdit is made by Davie Carden LLC, Austin, Texas (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the data described here.
Questions or requests: [contact email — Davie to confirm].
What we collect
Your account
- Your email address and the name you give us (you can change your name in Settings).
- How you sign in: Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or email and password. For Apple and Google we keep the account identifier they give us and the email they share. If you use Apple's “Hide My Email”, we only see the relay address.
- If you use a password, we store only a one-way hash of it (argon2id), never the password itself.
- Short-lived sign-in and verification codes we email you. Codes expire after 10 minutes.
What you make in SayEdit
- The videos and audio you film or upload, and the photos and documents you attach to a chat (for example PDFs, Word, text or Markdown files).
- Your chats with SayEdit: what you ask for, scripts, and the edits, captions and exports we make for you.
- Transcripts of the speech in your footage.
Photos and documents are stored and shown back to you in your chat. Today we don't send them to any AI service.
Your devices
- Push notification tokens and the type of device (iPhone or Android), so we can tell you when a video is ready and show upload progress in Live Activities.
Security records
- To stop abuse (like password guessing), we count sign-in and email attempts. These records use one-way hashes, not your raw email or IP address.
We don't use advertising identifiers, and the app has no third-party analytics SDK today. [analytics vendor, if any — Davie to confirm before launch]
The SayEdit waitlist
[Waitlist section — Davie to confirm] If you join the waitlist on sayedit.ai, we store your email address so we can send you launch news and occasional SayEdit updates (our newsletter). The form says so next to the button, and nothing is sent until you confirm your address.
- What we send: news about SayEdit's launch on the App Store and Google Play, and occasional product updates about SayEdit. We don't send other companies' offers, and we don't share or sell your address.
- We email you once straight away to confirm it was you. If you don't confirm within 7 days, the link stops working and we delete your address soon after.
- Along with your address we keep when you joined and confirmed, which form you used, your browser's user agent, and a one-way hash of your IP address to stop abuse (never the IP address itself).
- Our provider for the waitlist and these emails is Cloudflare: it stores the list (Cloudflare D1) and sends the emails (Cloudflare Email Sending). Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a signup comes from a person; it only loads once you start using the form.
- How to unsubscribe: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails, or your mail app's own Unsubscribe button. It works with one tap, anytime, and you don't need to sign in. After that we keep only your address marked as unsubscribed, so we don't email it again.
We use the list only for SayEdit launch news and occasional SayEdit updates. [how long we keep the list after launch — Davie to confirm]
How we use it
- To run your account and keep it secure, including linking sign-in methods that share the same verified email.
- To do what you ask: write scripts, transcribe and edit your footage, add captions and export your videos.
- To send account emails (verification codes, password resets, security notices) and push notifications about your videos.
- If you joined the waitlist: to send launch news and occasional SayEdit updates (our newsletter) until you unsubscribe, which you can do anytime from any of those emails.
We don't use your videos, photos or documents for advertising, and we don't sell or rent any of your data.
Who helps us run SayEdit
We use a small number of service providers. They process data only to provide their service to us.
- Cloudflare stores your uploaded files (Cloudflare R2, in North America) and sends our account emails.
- Deepgram turns the audio in your footage into a transcript. We send audio with Deepgram's opt-out from using it to improve their models.
- Anthropic (Claude) plans and makes your edits. It receives what you ask for and the transcript of your footage. [other AI providers, if any — Davie to confirm before launch]
- Apple and Google handle Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google, and deliver notifications (Apple Push Notification service on iPhone; Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android).
Your account data and chats are kept on servers we run. [server location — Davie to confirm]
How long we keep it
- Raw footage (the original files you upload) is deleted automatically 90 days after upload by default.
- Everything else (edited videos, transcripts, chats, photos and documents) stays until you delete it, delete all data, or delete your account.
- Unfinished uploads are cleaned up automatically after a day.
Your choices and controls
- Delete All Data (Settings > Account) deletes every chat, message, video, photo, document, upload, edit, transcript and caption in that account, stops any processing in progress, and deletes the stored files. Your account itself (name, email and sign-in methods) stays, so you can keep using SayEdit.
- Delete Account (Settings > Account) deletes your account and everything in it, including stored files. If you signed in with Google, the app also removes SayEdit's access to your Google account. If you sign in again later, you start with a new, empty account.
- Sign Out signs that account out of the device and stops its notifications there.
- You can turn off notifications in your phone's settings at any time.
You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your data by writing to [contact email — Davie to confirm]. Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights under local law.
Security
Connections to SayEdit are encrypted. Files are stored privately and shared back to your app only through short-lived links. Passwords are hashed, and sign-in attempts are rate limited. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in details safe.
Children
SayEdit isn't meant for children. You must be at least [minimum age — Davie to confirm] to use it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email.
